Frequently Asked OGUK Questions

  • Do I need an Oil and Gas UK medical?
    You are likely to require an Oil and Gas UK Medical if you’re working in the oil and gas industry; some workers will also require this medical for work on wind farms. The medical takes approximately 45 minutes to complete and costs £195.

  • Does it include a Fitness to Train/Fitness for BOSIET/FOET/HUET/EBS medical?

    This is a separate medical which may be done at the same time as your Oil and Gas UK Medical. The Oil and Gas UK medical plus Fitness to Train Medical takes one hour and costs £245. If you require both medicals at the same time, please select this on our booking page:

  • What happens during an OGUK medical assessment?
    The doctor will perform medical checks in line with the guidance from Oil and Gas UK:

  1.  Checking your height, weight, blood pressure and performing a physical examination. 

  2.  Checking your eyesight (before and after you put on glasses) and colour vision testing.

  3.  Checking your hearing. 

  4.  Testing your urine for glucose, blood and protein, indicative of diabetes and kidney problems.

  5.  Listing any medication you’re currently taking on the medical form.

  6.  Asking about your previous medical history (these questions are on the medical form).                 

  • What do I need to bring to my appointment? 
    This is a reminder of the items you will need to bring to your Oil and Gas UK medical:

  1. Photo ID e.g. driving licence, passport or discharge book.

  2. Your glasses (do not wear contact lenses as they are removed for the eyesight test).

  3. A urine sample. Our reception will give you a specimen pot on arrival and direct you to the bathroom.

  4. Good hearing: if possible, we recommend avoiding loud noises prior to your appointment.

  5. Any hospital letters and/or a list of your current medication.

  • What should I do if I have a significant health condition or I am unsure if it is relevant?
    Please email us in advance of your appointment and provide details of your health condition. We can then set aside additional time for your assessment.

  • Do you offer a discount if I require two similar medicals at the same time? Yes, we can often offer a discount if you are having two similar medicals at the same time e.g. Oil and Gas and Fitness to Train or Oil and Gas and ENG1.
